More New Details Emerge As Suspect Misidentified in Charlie Kirk Shooting Death: Police Hunt for Gunman Continues

An elderly man who was detained in a viral video after the senseless shooting of Charlie Kirk was not the suspect, who remains at large.

At 4:40 p.m. EST, President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Charlie Kirk was pronounced dead after being shot in the neck during a public event at Utah Valley University. Kirk was shot at around 2:10 p.m. EST (12:10 mountain time).

Shortly after the shooting, a video surfaced of police detaining an elderly man, whom many incorrectly claimed was the shooter.

Per CNN, a spokesperson for Utah Valley University said that the suspect is still at large. Police are currently searching the buildings on campus in an effort to locate the unknown shooter.

Charlie Kirk’s rise to a booming political activist career began in 2012, when he co-founded Turning Point USA at 18. Kirk was also the CEO of Turning Point Action and garnered over a billion total views on his YouTube channel.


Kirk was a close ally of Donald Trump and frequently held public events to promote healthy and cordial political debates. He is survived by his wife, Erika, and two young children.
